From Student to Entrepreneur: A Real Success Story from MGM University

An Inspiring Journey: Student to Entrepreneur

There is no greater happiness than being able to earn while pursuing your education. MGM College gave me exactly that opportunity, and I feel truly fortunate.

I come from a small town called Vaijapur. When I first joined college, I felt a little lost in the new environment. But soon, the college embraced me, and I began to feel that it was my own.

After taking admission to MGM College of Communication, Culture and Media (formerly College of Journalism and Mass Communication), many positive changes took place in my life. I had the opportunity to learn new things and gain valuable experiences. Most importantly, the college recognized my hidden potential and provided me with a wonderful platform to excel.

That platform came in the form of the Public News App by Inshorts. Through this app, I was able to earn money while continuing my studies.

The Public News App is a platform that publishes local news — even small updates from your village gram panchayat can appear on it. Within just four months, the app had crossed 50 million downloads.

I worked as the Vaijapur Taluka Representative for three months. We came to know about this opportunity through our faculty member, Kavita Soni Ma’am. She informed us that we could work as local reporters and earn by uploading news from our areas.

Initially, because of my farming responsibilities and household work, I ignored the message. But missing an opportunity is something I did not want to regret. One day, I decided to explore it. I called the number shared by Ma’am, and it turned out to be our college senior, Nilesh Kate.

As soon as he answered, he asked, “Would you like to work as the Vaijapur representative?” I was pleasantly surprised. Later, I learned that Kavita Ma’am had already recommended my name.

There is a special kind of joy when your teachers recognize your abilities and recommend you for a good opportunity. I experienced that joy firsthand.

Nilesh then introduced me to Sujit Sir, who was heading the Public App. Within half an hour, my account was activated, and I was given responsibility for Vaijapur Taluka on the same day.

Coincidentally, the first rain of the season had just arrived in our village. I immediately shot a video, wrote a script, recorded the news in my sister’s voice, and uploaded it. Within five minutes, I earned ₹40.

I rushed home and told my family that I had earned ₹40 in just five minutes. The amount was small, but it was my first earning. My family was extremely proud of me.

During the lockdown, when many journalists were losing their jobs, at the age of just 20, I had secured an online job. Some may think earning six to seven thousand rupees a month is not much, but for me, it was a big achievement. While still studying journalism, I had already started to cement my career.

Working with the app helped me develop many practical skills, such as:

Currently, I run a digital news channel called NRT News, which has been growing rapidly. The channel has crossed 100,000+ subscribers on YouTube and has also received the YouTube Silver Play Button Award. Along with this, our platform has built a strong digital presence with 100,000+ followers on Facebook and 100,000+ followers on Instagram.

Through this platform, we have created a strong identity and recognition among the audience.

With this growing trust and reach, I started my own company called Victory PR & Advertising. Through this company, we work in the field of Corporate and Political PR, Digital Promotion, and Social Media Management.

At present, we are handling social media and PR work for several political parties and many MLA’s across Maharashtra. To manage these projects professionally, we have built a dedicated team of 20 enthusiastic employees working at our office.

Along with this, we have also established Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s first high-quality and professional podcast setup. This modern studio is designed for podcasts, interviews, political discussions, corporate conversations, and digital content production.

Our goal is to create a new benchmark in digital media, PR, and modern content creation. The aspiration to excel in life and the confidence to believe in oneself was cultivated at the MGM College of Communication, Culture and Media. The college nurtured the entrepreneurial skills in me and transformed me from job seeker to job giver.

Our faculty members played a crucial role in my journey. Dr. Rekha Shelke Ma’am, our Principal, continuously organized innovative activities and lectures of eminent media personnels to enrich our academic and industry knowledge. Asha Deshpande Ma’am taught us fundamentals of journalism. Vivek Rathod Sir always encouraged us to gain practical exposure along with academics.

During my academic phase of life at MGM CCCM, I acquired skills and traits along with experience guidance that completely transformed my career.

Even today, I strongly believe that I will continue learning and growing in the years to come.

Whatever I am today is because of MGM CCCM.

To this institution that taught a small-town boy like me to dream big, achieve those dreams, and create employment for others — I express my heartfelt gratitude.

Thank you, MGM Family!
