Shaping Leaders for a Just and Peaceful World

 

The exponential growth in modern science and technology has triggered rapid change in global human community, resulting in ever increasing uncertainties coupled with anxiety.  As the global polity is shrouded in war clouds, civil unrest an economic volatility, the necessity for a pro-life inclusive leadership has never been felt stronger. 

M.A. Gandhian Studies at MGM University stands as a thoughtful response to this felt need; the necessity for a humane leadership  – rooted in the timeless vision of “Welfare of All in All Fairness.” 

Gandhian Studies is not just an academic program; it’s a transformative journey.  It attempts to nurture individuals into community leaders and opinion makers, who can uphold social sanity, nurture harmony in neighbourhood, and contribute constructively to society, for overall progress.  

Drawing inspiration from the Philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, the M.A., program orients students with the fundamental principles such as Truth and Nonviolence; applied principles such as Sarvodaya (welfare of all), Swaraj (self discipline for social good), Swadeshi (neighbourbood – reciprocal - transactional relation), methodological approach such as Satyagraha (insistence on Truth / life ) Constructive programmes (skilling and system building for comprehe; etc.

What distinguishes this M.A Gandhian Studies program is the interdisciplinary and experiential approach it follows. Students engage directly with real-life situation, my means of hands-on experiences in community organization and transformation, in the socio, cultural and economic realm of life, thereby gaining insights into sustainable living. Field action is intergral to the curriculum, allowing students participate in Peace building and conflict settlement efforts at the neighbourhood community.

Learning here, extends beyond neighbourhood classrooms. Exposure visit to centres of nonviolent action provides living examples Gandhian precepts in practice.  These experiences are complemented by opportunity to attend global conferences and training workshops on nonviolence and peace,  where students interact with world scholars, change-makers and performers and get global perspectives. 

The program eventually bridges the local with the global. It empowers students with a fresh, world view while encouraging them to employ their learning purposefully within their neighbourhood communities. The blend of vision and action makes our grauates to be an effective catalist of equitable and just social transformation.
