It is also important for the educators to upgrade their capabilities and understand this transition both in the business world and job market to make more management students ready for this challenge.
The journey of Management schools started in India with XLRI in 1949 which was supposed to be the first Management schools in India followed by the Indian Institute of Social Welfare & Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata in 1953 which was supposed to be the first school of Management formulation formal Management Programs. Further adding to the mechanism, the first IIM was introduced in collaboration with leading western universities to accommodate the bursting needs of the job sector in India. Over the passage of time this Management Education has evolved from a traditional commerce education to modern, technologically much advanced and full of artificial intelligence industry aligned features to accommodate the rising demand of public and private sectors in the country. Programs like Bachelor of Business Administration, Post Graduate diplomas have been seeing increasing their popularity amongst the management aspirants due to their nature of a combined education clubbed with practical and rigorous industry aligned programs.
It is an ongoing challenge for B-Schools to understand and manage this huge pool of talent and give their output inform of world class individuals who are managers from outside but still a caring individual from inside, because their overall personality shall impost the way our society will look in 5 decades from now. To facilitate this accreditation and governing bodies like AICTE, NAAC, NIRF and certain International like AACSB are working continuously to update the existing landscape of Management education and make it increasingly compatible and comfortable for the aspirants to facilitate the ever changing and updating global job market.
The ever-growing Management School structure shoots from 1080 Educational institutes giving Business Management Degree to in 2005 to around 8000 Institutes with various categories of AICTE approved Institute , Private Universities and Government Universities offering over 500000 seats towards providing better management education and training to achieve success in life. The rapid expansion of management education in India presents a significant growth–quality paradox. Though this expansion reflects increased access to management education, it has simultaneously raised serious concerns regarding the dilution of academic quality, shortage of competent faculty, and inadequacy of infrastructure in several institutions. Furthermore, the disproportionate growth in the number of graduates relative to industry demand has contributed to a widening employability gap, with many students lacking the practical skills and competencies required by the corporate sector. The commercialization of education, outdated curriculum, and limited emphasis on research and innovation further exacerbate the issue. Consequently, despite its quantitative growth, the sector faces critical challenges in ensuring that management education remains relevant, rigorous, and aligned with evolving industry and societal needs.
As mentioned by Prof Himanshu Rai Director IIM Indore “And given that India is now the largest country in terms of population, not only is it the world’s biggest market, but it is also the world’s biggest resource. And if we are the world’s biggest resource, then it is our duty to make sure that the education that we impart is also international in nature as well, and not just national.” The management landscape is evolving each day, and this evolvement is offering both a bag full of opportunities and lot of threats for this sector of education.
Over here the need for people with smart overlook of current changing situation of market, job environments, rising competition is increasing day by day.
