Hon'ble Sr. Adv. Shri. Kapil Sibal is a distinguished Indian politician, eminent lawyer, and acclaimed author whose contributions to public service, law, and literature have left an indelible mark on India's socio-political landscape. An alumnus of St. Stephen's College and the Faculty of Law at the University of Delhi, he further honed his expertise at Harvard Law School.
As a legal luminary, Mr. Sibal has represented numerous landmark cases in the Supreme Court of India, earning a reputation as one of the country's finest constitutional lawyers. His political career is equally illustrious, having served as a Union Minister in key portfolios, including Human Resource Development, Communications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology. In these roles, he spearheaded transformative policies aimed at advancing education, digital connectivity, and scientific innovation.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Sibal is a celebrated poet and author, using his pen to reflect on societal issues and the human experience. Currently serving as an independent Member of Parliament, he continues to contribute to national discourse with his intellect, vision, and unwavering commitment to justice.

Hon. Medha Patkar

Indian Social activist working on social issues for tribals, dalits, farmers, labourers and women facing injustice in India.

Medha Patkar, born on December 1, 1954, in Bombay (Mumbai), is a distinguished social activist and visionary known for her relentless dedication to social justice and sustainable development. With a strong foundation in social work, she earned her M.A. in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, where she excelled in Urban and Rural Community Development.
Smt. Patkar began her journey as a faculty member at TISS and later worked in Mumbai's slums as a Project Administrator, addressing grassroots challenges. In 1985, she founded the Narmada Bachao Andolan (Save Narmada Movement), advocating for the rights of tribal and peasant communities affected by dam projects in India. Her activism extends globally, with her involvement as a National Convenor of the National Alliance of People's Movements and a member of the World Commission on Dams.
Her groundbreaking work has garnered numerous accolades, including the Right Livelihood Award (Alternative Nobel Prize), the Goldman Environment Prize, and India's Mahatma Phule Award, among others. Medha Patkar's contributions exemplify a lifetime commitment to equity, environmental justice, and alternative development paradigms.
In recognition of her exceptional achievements, MGM University is proud to honor Medha Patkar with a D.Litt at its 3rd Convocation Ceremony.
