Special lectures at MGM University receive an enthusiastic response from students
The special lectures organized at MGM University yesterday received an enthusiastic response from the students and faculty.
Dr. Harpal Singh, National Fellow of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla delivered a lecture on ‘Guru Nanak and Mahatma Gandhi’, organized by Dr G. Y. Pathrikar College of Computer Science and Information Technology. He underlined the similarities in the thoughts and values of Guru Nanak and Mahatma Gandhi while tracing their source of inspiration to that of Lord Buddha.
Dr. Manjit Bhatia, Associate Professor and Researcher, Delhi University interacted with the students in another lecture on ‘Gender Theory and Practice’ organized by Institute of Management and Research. She elaborated how gender is not only a biological concept but also influenced by various other factors such as society, culture, history, religion, politics, male dominance etc. and why all these need to be considered while dealing with the gender theories and putting them into practice.

‘अप्पो दिपो भव’ हा भगवान गौतम बुद्धांचा संदेश गुरूनानकांप्रमाणे महात्मा गांधीच्या जीवनातही दिसून येतो. सुखवस्तू कुटुंबात असणारा राजकुमार (सिद्धार्थ) अंतिम सत्याच्या बाबतीत अस्वस्थ होतो आणि जीवनाचा उद्देश आणि सत्य समजल्यावर कसा शांत बनतो, यातून सत्याचे महत्व जाणवते. हेच विचार गांधी आणि गुरूनानकांच्या जीवनात दिसून येते, अशी भावना सिमला येथील इन्स्टिट्युट ऑफ एडव्हान्सड स्टडीजचे नॅशनल फेलो डॉ. हरपाल सिंग यांनी व्यक्त केली. एमजीएम विद्यापीठाच्या डॉ.जी.वाय.पाथ्रीकर कॉलेज ऑफ कॉम्प्युटर सायन्स अँड आयटीच्या वतीने “गुरु नानक आणि महात्मा गांधी’ या विषयावर आयोजित व्याख्यानात ते बोलत होते. कार्यक्रमाच्या अध्यक्षस्थानी प्राचार्या डॉ. प्राप्ती देशमुख उपस्थित होत्या. त्यांनी लैंगिक असमानता या विषयावर आपले मत मांडले तसेच विद्यार्थ्यांनी गुरूनानक आणि महात्मा गांधी यांचा आदर्श जीवनात अंगीकारणे गरजेचे असल्याचेही सांगितले.
दरम्यान, एमजीएम विद्यापीठाच्या इन्स्टिट्युट ऑफ मॅनेजमेंट अँड रिसर्चच्या वतीने “जेंडर थिअरी अँड प्रॅक्टीस”* या विषयावर दिल्ली विद्यापीठाच्या असोसिएट प्रोफेसर आणि अभ्यासिका डॉ. मंजित भाटिया यांनी विद्यार्थ्यांशी संवाद साधला.
लिंगभाव ही फक्त जैविक संकल्पना नसून तिच्यावर समाज,संस्कृती, इतिहास, धर्म,राजकारण, पुरुष प्रधानता इत्यादी गोष्ठींचाही प्रभाव असतो. स्री-पुरुष भेदाची संकल्पना म्हणजे लिंगभाव. स्री-पुरुष असा भेद निसर्गदत्त असून त्यात आश्चर्य वा अनर्थ असे काही नाही. स्रीकडे केवळ उपभोगाची साधन म्हणुन पाहणे योग्य नाही.कारण ती त्या समाजाचा एक महत्वपूर्ण भाग आहे, स्रीमुळे जीवन परिपूर्ण आहे. पुरुषांप्रमाणेच स्त्रिया स्वातंत्र्याचा उपभोग घेऊ शकत नाहीत. लिंगभाव हा जात आणि पितृसत्तेला सोबत घेऊन काम करतो, यातूनच स्री-शोषण होते, असे प्रतिपादन त्यांनी केले. अध्यक्षीय समारोप संचालिका डॉ. विजया देशमुख यांनी केला. तर यावेळी ज्येष्ठ अर्थतज्ज्ञ डॉ. एच.एम. देसरडा, प्रा.भागवत वाघ, प्रा.सुचित्रा मेंडके, प्रा. रामेश्वर कणसे, प्रा. कुंभकर्ण, डॉ.सारिका शेळके, प्रा. सतोनकर उपस्थित होते.
