Students! This is the right time, to decide what you want to do next. Those, who have a dream of becoming an engineer, may benefit from this article. In today’s world, holding an IT engineering degree is the key to your bright future. Amongst all branches of engineering, the IT branch is the fastest growing branch in the world. Computers have become an integral part of our daily lives. With the help of new services and technologies in the IT field like: Online Booking, e-Commerce, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, etc., one can easily do all the work from home.
When the whole world is fighting against COVID19, and work from home is becoming the buzzword, many companies including Facebook/Microsoft have decided to provide an option of work from home to the employees. During this time, if work from home or online working is going to be the future, then one must think wisely and make a decision to graduate in IT branch.
Recognizing the steps for the future, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) of the Government of India, has launched MSH (MeitY Startup Hub) in May 2019, and has invested Rs 5,000 crore in year 2019-2020. To leverage the benefits of demographic dividend, government is easing the norms for investment which will pave the way for big IT companies in establishing their bases in India. As 65% population of India will be working, skilled manpower will available for IT companies. Of course, there will be a lot of demand for IT engineers over the period of few decades.
Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College (JNEC) of MGM University, Aurangabad has been offering IT course since 20 years. It can be considered that this course is now in its youth stage and understands expectations and aspirations of today’s young generation. Graduation program B.Tech. (IT) in JNEC has been designed with incorporating distinctive features in its curriculum. Provision of challenging environment and opportunities for self-development through this program will prepare IT students not only for the job placements but will help them to generate ideas for entrepreneurship.
Some of the salient features of B. Tech (IT) program important for students include:
1) Emphasis on practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge:
When students admitted to an engineering program, they have common syllabus for the first year. From the second year of the program, students will be studying branch related subjects. IT program curriculum is focused on development of competencies with strong emphasis on practical knowledge which is necessary to solve various real-life problems. Students will follow practical approach, only when they understand the theoretical concepts properly.
2) Student – Industry Interaction (Coordination):
The curriculum of B.Tech (IT) includes courses for enhancing employability along with mentoring on personality and skill development of students. This enables students industry ready well before they complete their graduation. IT is one of the rapidly evolving fields, hence to keep pace with this evolution faculty members take efforts to keep themselves updated by interacting with industry experts as well as academicians, thus offering the best to the students.
3) Business and Entrepreneurship opportunities after B.Tech. IT:
After the graduation, you can pursue higher education (PG/Ph. D) in India as well as in the US, Japan, Europe, Italy, Germany etc. You can work in the field of education, private sector, and government offices such as: BSNL, CDAC, ISRO, DRDO, Airports Authority of India (AAI), Air Transport field, Public Service commission, and Research institutes etc.
You can also serve as corporate trainer and technical instructor in multinational companies. The Indian Air Force also offers various opportunities such as fighter pilot, Aircraft maintenance engineer, and Technical ground staff. Other career opportunities are also available in Machine learning, Big data, High performance computing domains, Software test engineer, Quality control engineer, Quality assurance analyst, Big data quality assurance testing, Web app testing, Mobile app testing etc.
If you have an excellent educational foundation then there are various startups as well as entrepreneurship opportunities available for IT engineers.
4) Learn to work in a team:
Behind every successful project, there is a team and its efforts. Team work is the key to success for every project in the industry and real world. If students learn this culture from the very beginning and imbibe it in their minds it becomes easy for them to adapt with corporate environment.
