This lab includes various experimental set-ups to enrich the practical knowledge of students.  Different set-ups includes Francis turbine test rig, Gear pump test rig, Impact of jet apparatus, Cavitation test rig, Bernoulli’s theorem verification apparatus, Kaplan turbine test rig, Determination of metacentric height of war/cargo ship model, Reynolds Apparatus, Flow visualization apparatus, Centrifugal pump test rig, Pitot tube apparatus, Venturimeter- Orifice meter and Pipe friction factor measurement apparatus.


An Internal Combustion laboratory is an essential part of Mechanical Engineering Department where students perform experiments on various engines and other related parts.

The purpose of this lab is to enhance knowledge of students about working and performance  of C.I.and S.I. engines through practical exposure.

Various cut section models of engines along with engine test rigs are displayed in this lab.

Students actual working projects are also kept here for better understanding of the subject.

In coordination with Automobile Engineering laboratory, students easily understand complete working mechanism of engines.


In this Laboratory different experiments are conducted to study the Microstructure of different Materials, Hardenability, Hardness of different materials, Heat treatment to improve the Mechanical Properties and non-destructive testing of materials for UG and PG/Ph. D. levels are done.


The refrigeration and air conditioning lab consist of all modern equipment’s which are used in Industry and beneficial to startup. It consists of six equipments namely: Different refrigeration tools used for maintenance of different refrigeration systems, Ice Plant Test Rig, Air Conditioning Test Rig, Mechanical Heat Pump, Refrigerator Test Rig and Domestic Refrigerator.


Computer Aided Design has a vital role to play in product design & development with objectives of short product development time, reduction in cost and enhancement in quality. CAD laboratory provides necessary hardware & software for students to draft, design & analyze engineering products/assemblies. Laboratory caters to lab sessions of Engineering Graphics, Machine Drawing, Product Design, CAD courses .CAD laboratory has following infrastructure: HP ProDesk PC(core i3), Creo4.0 software, Engg.Graphics V3.0 software, CATIA V5 R27software, AutoCAD software.


Theory of Machines is important subject for understanding of concepts relevant to mechanisms of machines and dynamics of machines.

To understand basic mechanisms of machines lab is well equipped with different types of models of mechanisms.

To understand concepts of the subjects in depth lab is equipped with following apparatus/equipment.

4) Cam and follower

5) Involute profile generator

6) Dynamic balancing of rotating masses

7) Reciprocating masses balancing

8) Epicyclic gear train

Apart from this many advance mechanisms demo videos helps the students to adequate exposure to correlate basic concepts with the industries around.

Students are nurtured with problem based learning and well motivated and guided to develop required schematics of mechanisms for given problems.


Heat transfer lab is utilized by our T.Y Mechanical students for course of Heat transfer. This lab can provide practical knowledge about different modes of heat transfer namely conduction, convection and radiation and their different application. Heat transfer lab includes experimental setup, some of setups are as follows:

Thermal conductivity of insulating powder: This experimental setup to observe thermal conductivity of materials in powdered form.

Critical heat flux apparatus: This experimental setup is used to photographic study of pool boiling phenomenon up to critical heat flux point.

Emissivity measurement apparatus: This experimental setup designed to determine heat dissipated by conduction and convection for the two plates under state condition.

Thermal conductivity of composite wall: This experimental setup used to determine total thermal resistance and thermal conductivity of composite walls.

Forced convection apparatus: This experimental setup used to determine heat transfer co-efficient for internal pipe in forced convection.


Automobile engineering laboratory is intended to serve the practical exposure to the students, in automotive field. It is equipped with the layout models and cuts sections of various systems in an automobile application. Layout of an automobile, Cut section of gear box, Actual cut section models of Braking system; Differential, Clutches, Suspension Systems, etc. are the major equipment. To have a better vision the self explanatory informative charts are also displayed. Experiential based learning deployed to the learner by actual assembly and details.


The objective of Thermal Engineering Lab is to provide knowledge on Thermodynamics and advanced Thermodynamics to the students. The Lab is well equipped with equipment’s to understand the basics of Boilers, Compressors Calorimeter and Cooling Towers. The Lab also contains number of models of boiler, its accessories and mountings etc. The list of experiments consist of calculation of efficiency of Single stage and two stage reciprocating air compressor, calorific value of fuel, performance of cooling tower and exhaust gas analysis by Orsat apparatus.

METROLOGY LABORATORY                                                                         

Metrology lab in Mechanical engineering Department is used for the subject Metrology & Quality Control. Students learn, understand and develop the ability of using different types of measuring instruments and equipments. Metrology lab has many types of instruments which are used for different types of measurements for e.g.  determination of linear/angular dimensions of a part using precision on non precision measuring instruments such as Vernier Calliper, Digital vernier caliper, Gear tooth vernier caliper, Vernier depth gauge,  Micrometer, Height Gauge, Digital Height Gauge, Combination set, Bevel protector etc.

It also has different types of equipments such as Floating carriage micrometer (used for measurement of Major, Minor and Effective diameter of threaded plug gauge),  Sine bar (used for precise measurements of angles and for locating any part to a given angle within very close limits), Sine center (used for checking of taper angles of components having centers), Autocollimator (used for measurement of flatness, straightness etc) , Angle Dekkor (used for measurement of small angular deviations), Interferometer ( used for study of surfaces – concave convex , flat etc), Tool Markers Microscope (used for Measurement on parts of complex form e.g. profile of external thread, tool, templates, gauges, measuring centre to centre distance of holes in any plane,  a variety of linear measurements and  accurate angular measurements), Profile projector (used for measuring dimensions and geometry of complex  parts, Profile projector reveal imperfections on parts such as burrs, scratches, wear etc),  Surface Roughness Tester ( used for measuring of surface roughness of a part).


Pneumatics & Electro Pneumatics System:

Pneumatics is the branch of Science which deals with the properties of Air, behavior of air and force applied by air. In this setup there are different types of components involved such as, compressor, Directional control valve, Flow control valve, Linear actuators such as Double acting cylinder & single acting cylinder, Solenoid valve, banana cables, switch box, relay box and so many. Electro Pneumatics is controlled by Electrical action with the help of air pressure. In this setup also there are different types of components.

Hydraulics & Electro Hydraulics System:

A setup of Hydraulics and Electro Hydraulics from FESTO, Germany.

Hydraulics is deals with the properties of liquid such as oil which is applies at high pressure to get the linear motion. There are different applications of Hydraulics as Hydraulic lifts, hydraulic cranes, in vehicle brakes, and so on. Likewise Electro hydraulics is controlled by Electricity with the help of oil pressure. FESTO is a German company which provided us the software called Fluid Sim in which students can design different circuits used in Industrial Applications. In this setup also there are different components which include different valves, cylinders, electric switches, relays and so on.

Fluid Sim Software: A software for simulation of circuits of Pneumatics & Hydraulics.
